Do You Need Your Fuel Tank Inspected?
The US EPA Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Act (SPCC) requires regular inspection of above-ground storage tanks (ASTs). In response, the Steel Tank Institute has developed a standard protocol, SP001, governing these inspections for shop-built and field-erected ASTs containing up to 50,000
gallons of fuel.
Risks of Noncompliance
Organizations that fail to have regular inspections performed are at risk of citations by the fire authority, leaks and the associated penalties, costly repairs, and downtime.
In order to comply with EPA SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure) rules, a facility must regularly test liquid level sensing devices to ensure proper operation (40 CFR 112.8(c)(8)(v))
