CD & Power Recognized by Bay Area News Group as a Top Workplace for 4th Time.
Martinez, CA – June 27, 2018 – It seems to be a habit, but it’s one that the company never takes for granted. “We know our job is never done when it comes to investing in our people,” explains Jill Collaro, President.
As in past years, the management team at CD & Power takes each workplace award as a challenge to innovate on their proven formula for attracting and retaining great employees. This year the “California Dreamin'” theme (there is always a theme for the year) has centered on a blend of long-standing habits and new initiatives.
Martinez, CA – April 19, 2018 – CD & Power is proud to be listed as one of the Best Places to Work in the Bay Area, by the San Francisco Business Times, the Silicon Valley Business Journal, and Quantum Workplace, who co-produced a recent in-depth study. “We know our job is never done when it comes to investing in our people,” explains Jill Collaro, President. “We’re honored to have won workplace recognition in recent years, which motivates us to keep stepping up our game!”
This year, Jill and the CD & Power management team decided to make two significant investments of time and resources into the careers and well-being of their employees. One they have affectionately named “Tall Bald Guy University” or TBGU for short, in honor of company founder Chuck Uischner. “We’ve continued to prioritize training and development because we saw how well it worked for our dad, frankly,” explained Don Uischner, company Vice President and Jill’s brother. “It has been the cornerstone of a positive culture and our ability to deliver great service. TBGU is our way of formalizing this commitment to our employees.” Jill elaborates, “we developed a curriculum, are inspiring our employees to pursue more skills, and are rewarding them with a company-paid trip when they complete their course of study.”
Eleven years ago we were proud to rank as the leading independent, industrial generator maintenance company in the Bay Area. As such, we secured business with some of the most prestigious organizations around, including retail chains and telecommunications companies, all voracious users of power and consequently, back-up power.
Many of these companies operate in other locations throughout California. Exploring potential for new growth, we targeted the Sacramento area. Opening a CD & Power satellite operation there became the next logical step. It carved out for us a beachhead to both expand our support of existing customers as well as to capture a share of the emerging commercial and municipal business developing in the Capital district and along the 80/680 corridor.
You might expect to find a large number of women-owned businesses in the Bay Area. The San Francisco Business Times reports there are over 192,000 of them. What you might not expect to find is the Bay Area’s largest independent player in the industrial generator service industry among them. In the Business Times annual listing of the women-owned companies, CD & Power, Northern California’s largest, independent generator service company, muscled its way into the top 100 woman-owned businesses for the second year in a row.
Thirty years ago Chuck Uischner launched the company out of a single bay in Arnold Industrial Park in Martinez, California. Today, it continues to thrive as a family-owned business with Chuck’s daughter, Jill Collaro as President and his son, Don Uischner as Vice President.

Martinez, CA – July 25, 2017 Brian Benson recently signed up with CD & Power, Inc. as their new Sales Manager. In his role, Benson will lead the growing Northern California sales team. To a squad already steeped in talent and expertise, Benson brings another level of depth. He has already meshed with his CD & Power teammates and become a resource to customers and other team members. Perhaps not a triple-double, but not bad for a couple weeks on the job!
Martinez-based CD & Power was recently ranked among the Bay Area’s top Women-Owned Businesses by the San Francisco Business Times. Out of the 192,300 estimated women-owned businesses in the greater San Francisco metro area, the publication chose to highlight the top 100 by revenue. CD & Power is pleased to announce that they made the list.
Martinez, CA—Thirty years ago Chuck Uischner started California Diesel out of a single bay in Arnold Industrial Park. Today, his daughter, Jill Collaro, is the President and his son, Don Uischner, is Vice President. The company has since grown to become “CD & Power” – employing 44 people, operating 35 trucks, and occupying a 20,000 sq ft space in Martinez. Moreover, it is Northern California’s largest independent generator service company, maintaining the top brands in the diesel power industry for customers including major telecommunications companies, municipalities, retail chains, hospitals and truck fleet operators down to individuals with recreational vehicles.
Collaro and Uischner believe that the company’s three decades of success can be largely attributed to the dedication of the employees and a corporate culture that is focused on collaboration. “We continue to have regular company-wide meetings, something my father started,” says Collaro, “where we encourage all of our employees to contribute their ideas and express areas where they believe we can improve.”
