Secondary Remote Stop Switch Installation

NFPA codes require all stationary generators to have adequate disconnecting means to open all electrical circuits as well as shut down the engine, or “prime mover.” If your generator is greater than 15kw, you must have an additional, remote stop switch installed. We can take care of that for you.

We service Northern California from our San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento locations. Call (866) 468-7697 for details.

Compliance Assessment & Planning

Powering the Success of Northern California means we also help you remain compliant with the numerous agencies and codes that regulate your generator use. We’ve simplified the complex maze of requirements so you are ready for a surprise inspection and mandated reports are just one click away.

When we assess the repair and maintenance needs of your generator, we also evaluate the following generator compliance factors:

  • What Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) govern your location
  • Load tests, as required by the NFPA 110
  • Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) inspection and testing, per NFPA 110
  • Record keeping, per NFPA 110
  • Secondary remote emergency stop switch requirement, per NFPA 70
  • Annual diesel fuel testing, per NFPA 110
  • Rupture basin sensor testing, per California Fire Code (CFC) 5003 & 5004
  • Above ground storage tank inspection, per SPCC and STI requirements
  • Emergency power source exit lighting, per CFC 1011

Next Step

Is your facility equipped with proper means to shut down your generator?

Specifically, NFPA 70 section 445.18 makes it clear that:

  • The “disconnecting means” (stop switch) must be lockable in the opening position
  • Start control circuits must be disconnected, rendering the prime mover incapable of starting
  • Restarting the prime mover must require a mechanical reset
  • Generators with a rating greater than 15kw are required to have an additional means of shutting down the prime mover located outside the equipment room or generator enclosure.

While your stationary generator is likely equipped with proper means of disconnecting the circuits and stopping the prime mover, do you have the required additional stop switch that is outside the generator enclosure? We can install and configure a remote stop switch that complies with regulations and matches your needs.
