CD & Power announced today the State of California’s approval of its technician education and training program. After a review of the company’s generator apprenticeship curriculum, the state’s Department of Industrial Relations granted approval and will designate graduates of the four-year program as “Master Generator Technicians.”
“That is a new title, never used before in California,” said Jill Collaro, President of CD & Power. She added, “I am so proud of the hard work our students are putting into the program. Believe me, it’s a grind, a four-year deep dive into the mechanics of industrial generators and engines.”
The state’s recognition and approval is the culmination of over 2 years of effort to design and document a comprehensive approach to training and educating generator technicians. Across the four years, students accumulate over four thousand hours of classroom and in-the-field learning designed to help them master effective, efficient, and safe operation of industrial generators and engines. Instructional classes provided by John Deere, Kohler, Isuzu, Volvo, MQ Power, and Honda are included in the course of study.
Lisa Carter, CD & Power General Manager expressed pride in what she called “the faculty,” the company’s field force of professionals who, in on-the-job training, share decades of experience with students. “The first 3 journeymen technicians to achieve the title have over 50 years of combined experience,” Ms. Carter said. “That level of expertise is what propels our company and will allow our first apprentices to start the program in February.”
